When Destiny Plays

 Source: Google Images

Have you ever fall in love? (I hate asking this question but…) If yes, then I’m sure you already know the feeling when you witness a real life magic. Not a literal magic on a magic show, where in a bunny suddenly appears from a magician’s hat. I’m talking about the magic made by fate, also called “destiny”. It is the same thing that plays a great role to the Hong Kong - Singaporean movie, Turn Left, Turn Right.

This movie is all about a two person that are destined for each other but being parted by the playful fate. Just like a typical hopeless romantic person, John and Eve wants to find their destiny and there, they found each other. Funny, because they met before, even when they are young but because of some circumstance they never get in touch, same as in present. There is no easy happy after and it seems that fate is having fun of them. They even meet this two crazy persons that make the situation even worse, Ruby (a waitress/delivery girl who likes John) and Dr. Hu (Eve’s creepy stalker). As I said, fate is the reason why they are apart but it is also the reason why they meet again at the end.

Its kind a tricky, so let me tell you some cliché scenario that might be quiet similar to this story. Because, honestly, I think it is somehow unrealistic. I mean there is a less possibility that it happens in real life. (So here is it...)

Have you experienced that moment when you always find each other in a random time and place, then every time you see him, it feels like everything drives so slow. You can’t help to wonder why on earth you always meet. Then, as the time pass, you get attach to him. You are starting to love his presence, to enjoy your moments and to realize that you are falling.

What if the saddest part come? Where in, he's gone for no reason. Then you just have nothing to do but to cry; wishing him to come back knowing he won’t and escaping the fact that the following days aren’t the same just like before. It’s like every time you miss him is equivalent to every wounds that you gain. As if you are being stub by the memories that supposed to make you smile and being killed by the reality that make you cry.

I can’t blame you if you start asking “Why do I have to meet him, if in the end, he’s not going to stay?” or “What’s the point of having this feeling, if at the first place , we’re not meant to be?” Sooner or later, you’ll get tired and numb of pain, until you are finally ready to let go.

But, what if he comes back, bringing all the memories and the feelings from the past that you try to forget. What would you do if you feel the “same” feeling you used to have before, when once again, everything drives so slow?

That’s how it goes in real life situation. But if I were you I would prefer the one which in the movie because it has a touch of comedy and a sudden twist. We don’t have to take all things seriously. I’m not going to say that “Let the fate works on it,” for I believe the other way around, that’s why I leave a hanging question in the scenario…It is because, you’re the one who creates your destiny, it is not the destiny who creates you.

Making Chants: Enjoy the Cheers

ABMA 151 (3rd place)
* Cheers and Chants or Chants and Cheers; Cheers, Chants; Chants and Cheers,* (tongue twist? honestly I don’t know what comes first that’s why I made the tongue twister… but anyway, its all the same..   ) This is one of the English Term’s competition, launched by English Department, at Asia Pacific College. For this month, its time for the School of Multimedia Arts (SoMA) and School of Engineering (SoE) to conquer the stage.

The program is hosted by Prof. Nomer Yuzon who also sung for his intermission number. (I was amazed when he started to sing. I never thought that he has a charming voice because as far as I can remember, he told us that he don’t sing nor dance. Anyway lets go back on our topic) The first school that performed are the SoMA student followed by the SoE.

CPE 151 (2nd place)
Each group has its own way to amuse the audience especially the judges. Some use led lights and glow in the dark for their costumes. Others use banners and ribbons (the one which is being use at gymnastics) that gave a nice impact for the audience. They also use flash cards that symbolized their block. But above all this gimmicks, for me, cooperation and unity is the best weapon to win.
In the end, ECE 151 win the game. They are followed by the CPE 151 (2nd place) and ABMA 151 ( 3rd place)

Everyone (I guess) enjoyed the competition. I realize that chants and cheers isn’t that bad because at the end of the day I enjoyed it. After the competition, I noticed that I was the only one who still manage to be happy despite of the fact that we lose (once again). In fact I can’t help to laugh with their reaction. Don’t get me wrong… I just observed something that so unusual, for me. I just noticed that ‘they’ (known to be an outgoing and cheerful persons) seem to forget the word FUN because of this word, PRIDE.

ECE 151 (1st place)
Another thing… isn’t it ironic that we lose because we thought, we are going to win? Honestly, I really had this feeling that we are going to lose because of this PRIDE. How did I say so? The bible told me…

“But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resist the proud, but gives grace to the humble””
                                                          -James 4:6

“Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord and He will lift you up.”
                                                          -James 4:10

I’m not that religious kind of person but this verses really caught my attention because it seems to be true. I always encounter such situation that can prove this, like what happen to us. Anyway those are just my insights. So to make the long story short, I think the best way to do is to keep quiet, stay humble and just enjoy every moment. Cheer up and let God handle everything. Just like what they said “He has His own plan, better than we can imagine,”

Media Literacy Seminar: The Reporter's Side

credits: Raymund Gines

“Journalism is a public trust, therefore they must take care of that trust,” a quote said by a journalist, Toni Tiemsin, during his speech in Media Literacy Seminar at Asia Pacific College. Now, if journalism is a public trust and the journalist take care of this, does it mean that all the reports are true? Or there’s another side of a news that is left unspoken?

According to Mr. Webster (Merriam Webster Dictionary) “News is a new information about something”. It should be fresh and factual. Biases are not allowed in Journalism industry because in this case balance is one of the keys to avoid misunderstandings.

For others especially for teenagers, news might look boring but its not as easy as we think. Journalism is kind a threatening job. It is because one mistake can lead to destruction of one’s credibility, trust, career and life. So the reporters should choose their words wisely. We are all aware of the threats that a journalist may encounter as they broadcast the truth.

Toni Tiemsin admitted, that being in mass media industry doesn’t mean that you are free to say whatever you want the public to know. It goes the other way around. They have limits. There are times that not all information are being broadcast not just because of lack of time (though its one of the reasons) but also because they have to protect themselves. Sometimes they just follow their boss’s command when they want them to abolish an issue or articles. This is a tough situation because they have to choose between their career and advocacy. Then, another factor that contributes with this issues is having biases, which you can’t take away from a person. Sometimes, no matter how they try to avoid, their work seems to be bias. On the other hand, we can’t escape with the fact, that there are some people who are willing use their power and influence to control the media.

Mass media is not that easy nor free. There are so many ways to hide the truth. Being in this industry is like being in between of two bumping rocks. For the people behind the mass media, it’s a tough battle between their career and advocacy while for me, this shows that,” Every freedom has its limit.”
